Conditions began as Bonny Poon in 2017, Paris. Located on the 26th floor of a residential tower in the 13e, the gallery was co-founded by Nathaniel Monjaret (Marbriers 4, Geneva) and artist Bonny Poon. Two years of non-stop programming were dedicated to our motto: We believe in people, not products. Beyond the art on display, we brought to the fore the history of our artists' attitudes, positions, and networks.
We presented the Parisian debut of many international artists, both emerging and established.
In 2019, Air de Paris selected us to join the new art district of Romainville. Unfortunately, internal divisions and the covid-19 pandemic forced us to suspend operations.
The gallery will now reopen as Conditions in Toronto, solely directed by Poon. From the outset, Bonny Poon has striven to highlight the conditions that make art—from its production to sale—possible. Bonny Poon / Conditions is a gallery and an autofiction. We support transgressive artists and critical experiments. We continue to mine the backstage, backroom working relations that unfold between our artists, clients, critics, and dealers—a parade of economic reality, a lasting dream of community.

We acknowledge that this gallery is sited on stolen land—traditionally cared for by the Anishinaabe, the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, the Haudenosaunee Confederacy and the Huron-Wendat—and that no lip service will pay for justice. A percentage of all art sales will go towards the restoration of Indigenous sovereignty, in consultation with the Yellowhead Institute.
